Because Mother's know the best

Days when I absolutely nothing to wear I turn to my beloved abode of Maxis. I probably have a new add on every month. They are really my favorite and go to pieces in the wardrobe. I'm the kind of person when it comes to personal style that likes to flaunt a little skin here and there so when my mum got his maxi custom made I was like who is going to wear these curtains. Yes, those were my initial words to mum. Which is what mother dear took upon as a challenge and asked me to let her style this one post.

I share the most beautiful relation with my mother that shall have endless memories to each garment. We share a lot of our wardrobe

"Shh! Trust me, pet
Mother knows best
Mother knows best
Listen to your mother
It's a scary world out there"
Recall these lines from one of the finest Disney movies yet?

So my mum had made me this button down shirt maxi, and after all the years of having it, I  asked my mum to finally take the task.I have literally dreaded to wear the dress for so long thinking of ways to style it.And out of nowhere, we thought the dress deserved a fair chance and well we kinda did it. This was shot in 15 minutes flat hair done expertly by Sanky in the driveway of course. Also if you know my bong mother she is big on flowers/plants everything real or fake - Which I completely endorse in this post.
I have so many exciting posts lined up, hope you are enjoying reading this and can take up some style inspirations for your everyday styles.
See you real soon XOxo ðŸ’‹

So here the pictures of a very quickly styled post by my mother in cue with the location and footwear which I absolutely love. I have come to become a loyal fan to Truffle shows they really do make extremely comfortable heels. Let me know what do you think of the post?

Boho Lite with Vajor

So generally when one dresses boho there is a lavish splash of accessories from bags to belts, bracelets, fringe earrings, elaborate hairstyle. I decide to go rather boho -lite and let my vajor dress shine through. The dress itself has such beautiful elements like the cut-out and the flared bell sleeves and detailing in blue. However I couldn't fit in even with the XL size so I added Rayon tie-dye fabric in two panels and a thin elastic band.
The Mad Hair Scientist took well almost over four hours to get my hair in order !We foil curled it making 8 shapes along as we went down lengthwise. Let me know if you guys want to see a tutorial we are really in drumdolls now!
Coming back to the outfit, I paired my dress with thong sandals from SSS.com and this cute little sling from Forever 21.I got this in Bangalore when I was working.I love how the boho hippie style encompasses the characteristic details of the hippie style and merges them with the boho ideology. What do you think of the look and how would you style this dress, let me know?

I will write back to you in my next post.See you soon my loves.

Clash of prints for Bhai dooj

Greetings my lovely readers

There quite a few mythological stories associated with celebrating Bhai Dooj. For people new to this festival and my friends across the globe reading this,it is similar to Raksha Bandhan. For me this year I haven't really left any occasion to get decked up.

For my today's outfit, I decided to pair up my three separate to make the perfect coordinate. I haven't worn lehenga since ages forget about lehenga choli! But it was the time I took the plunge irst with Sabya lehenga and now with this outfit to show my tummy rolls. I have almost dreaded this for too long to show my stomach that comes with its own stripes and stretch marks. But then again not everything  is perfect and as photoshopped  as the magazine. I felt the exact need to truly accept body positivism and this would my first stint baring my midriff! My needs for traditional wear arises not from occasion to wear them but from the occasional bouts of confidence cycles I have! And getting ethnic wear in my size has always been a trouble, though my love for sarees is undeniable I love my share of kurtis and lehengas but Alas! the limited availability and the pricing put me off . So  whenever I do decide to wear traditional I do end up making something myself with the indulgent dose of inspirations around.(Talk about putting design degree to some use).

The choli is actually a jamawar silk blouse that I wear with most of my sarees in and out. The floral skirt is a cheap bargain I got at one of the fleas in Hyderabad and the dupatta is  borrowed from my mother's closet.
The whole outfits even though has a variety  of prints, textures, and embroideries they seem to work well together with this beautiful meenakari work statement neck piece and earrings. I absolutely love the pieces and would ideally wear just one of them !The jewelry is courtesy of Aquamarine ,I got them from the turner road store in Bandra. Santosh and Sheetal have definitely been so creative with the silver jewelry in terms of the ideation to the finish of the entire product. I definitely can't wait to go back!

My hair is  done meticulously by The Mad Hair Scientist a.k.a. Sanky evrus.

What should I style next on my blog,Let me know?I need your crazy ideas.See you soon in my next post, till then

A Fat Girl's Ode to Sabya- "A Dark Diwali"

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, I do not believe so! But this Diwali shopping or for that over a decade I’ve been through rejections from designer/shopkeeper or for that matter even that local darzi that refuses to stitch cos ”Madam kapda bahut Lagega and Time bhi”! Yup That’s the answer I”ve heard over a decade now and it never seems to sound any less painful.
Being a designer I wanted to emote my way through a dress that would imitate A bigwig and let me feel the way every girl does in her designer outfits. I only own probably a Masaba cos Saree need no size!
I went out to source my cloth and well get inspired from the Royal Darling Designer Sabyasachi! Yup, I did it! Sorry if I offend any of you Sabya fans or for that matter Sabyasachi too, but I just wanted to feel like    a normal person (cos being FAT is not normal)  trying  to put her best foot forward.
Sabyasachi and Manish Arora have been my design heroes for decades now and truly ate and breathe design since I was 12!

Coming to my post I have paired up two dupattas over my lehenga and clinched it with a metal belt. The rice beads clutch is from my mother's wardrobe.

The gorgeous outfit is perfectly paired with these silver earrings polished in antique gold from AQUAMARINE. The lehenga is forest lush green with sequin and antique matter gold work and the Lehenga skirt is also made with the same sequins .Although I do not wear a dupatta along but to emote Sabyasachi I paired two. The hair is a sizeable pouf that is obviously done by THE MAD HAIR SCIENTIST. I’m Wearing wedges  underneath from Forever21 to be comfortable, the skirt alone weighs 8 kgs.

Talking about my fabulous earrings from Aquamarine they are definitely a head turner. Though quite heavy they are a sure shot way to fetch genuine compliments this Diwali season. The brand has panned out to COLABA,LOKHANDWALA,BREACH CANDY And The very new one being in Delhi’s Khan market. The team is headed by Designer Santosh Bathija. They have a piece for every taste and every budget.

This is what I wear for Diwali today, What about you? Show me your outfits please, where do you find them?
I will be writing to you for my Bhaiya Dooj post, till then

My Dhanteras Outfit in Collaboration with Aquamarine Jewellery

Dhanteras is the first day of the Indian Diwali and Nepalese Tihar Festival.  and is celebrated with much enthusiasm buying gold ,silver copper or for that matter even utensils.

I bought jewels from Aquamarine which will last me this festive season.
I paired my Navy Blue Dhakai Jamdani with a Free people top with with batik and clamp dye technique and has simple hand embroidered borders all over. The cut is absolutely lovely and I wore it over a saree to make myself comfortable eff! So not only my sari was traditional but was comfortable as heck.

My neckpiece is from AQUAMARINE and elaborate hairpiece and earring although in German silver are a thrift store find. Though Aquamarine doesn't need any introduction really with all the celebrity love, I'm very excited to tell you it has popped a new store in Delhi too! It is definitely my go to store for Fashionable Semiprecious jewellery like Earrings, Necklaces, Rings, Pendants, Bracelets, Cuffs, Anklets, Scarfs, Pendant Sets, Mang Tikas, Bangles, Fashion Jewelry, and other latest accessories.

Here's what Aqu
amarine has to say for itself "Silver has always played second fiddle to Gold, the Indian woman prefers the yellow metal. Aquamarine brings about a revolution and convinces one to recognise the beauty of this lustrous white metal."

I picked these beauties from Aquamarine turner road store in Bandra and Colaba is next on my radar because of the beautiful store location and ambience.
How did you like my Outfit for dhanteras and what are you wearing,I'd love to see it! Snap it to me at GOLIDARZI .

The hair and photography is done by The Mad Hair Scientist A.K.A. Sanky Evrus.I shall you see you tomorrow in my Choti Diwali post!
Till then,

The Soul saree

The Indian Saree (a.k.a. Sari, Seere, Sadi) boasts of oldest existence in the sartorial world. It is more than 5000 years old! It is mentioned in Vedas,  the oldest existing (surviving) literature (3000 B.C.) Patterns of dress change throughout the world now and then but, the Sari has survived because it is the main wear of rural India. 75% of the population (now a billion as per official estimate) wear versatile sari. We can certainly call this cloth versatile because it could be worn as shorts, trousers, flowing gown-like or convenient skirt-wise--all without a single stitch!

This was probably the quickest blogpost I have ever shot. We did the hair and makeup flat 30 mins-and by that I really mean we were darn fast (we usually keep procrastination and the routine takes upto a good 3 hours span).Had somebody asked me my connection towards saree 5 years ago, I would only associate it with my farewell occasion where would really be eager to pick out our mommy’s shiniest sequined saree./my love for saree has definitely come through sourav ( my best friend that I’ve been living in for a year). We met during our NIFT days –were batch mates and eventually just knew how we are destined to be together as label. We are nothing alike and probably that what makes it even more specials except the fact we both are hard-drawn Aquarians.
Sourav has opened up the path of textiles to me by which I particularly mean the handwoven fabrics. I had always been a fan of synthetic fabrics because of my body shape I looked out to fabric that wouldn’t cling to my body-chiffons, polyesters & super net  were my go-to picks!

My initial  indefinite attachment in Indian handlooms were  towards  craft styles like Ajrakh, Mashroo and Ikat realy. But lately I’ve discovered something new each week as indepth and am open to the learning. My recent discovery is that of Begum Bahar (which I shall be posting next) and I’m absolutely delected about!
So my top tips to really CHOOSE a saree for yourself comes to you as –
If it’s your first time buying a saree for yourself, it’s in all probability you are picking it up for an occasion.
Think about where you are about to adorn the saree but also keep in mind that when Tomorrow, as you stand in front of your  wardrobe, you should be willing to choose a Saree that calls out to you &  will remember the story of how it made its way into my life.

Don’t fall for a grand saree! To be absolutely fair, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 'grand' Saree, if you are so inclined, or if the occasion merits it. But don't choose a Saree, based on it's 'grandness'. Choose a Saree because it speaks to you. Choose the Saree which has a colour that thrills you, or that bowls you over with its calm artistry. Choose the Saree which has been handwoven by craftsmen who continue an ancient art form. Choose the Saree that your mother wore, or even one belonging her mother before her. Choose the Saree that your partner picks out for you, even if it’s something you can't possibly see yourself in. Choose the Saree that you love, and it will love you back for a lifetime. And most importantly, I could only choose a Saree I love as a gift for someone else, because it would be an expression of how much it means to me to share the joy of a Saree.(These lines are by Sumita Selvaraj and would like to thank her for the matter me think and dwell so long upon it).

Moving back to My chosen form of Saree is from Designer Sailesh Singhania-an Indigo chanderi with golden zari.I paired this saree in nothing but a statement neckpiece from Mickey Zaveri Jwellery .The neckpiece is made from glass and the printing is actually marbling with 18 carat gold over it.The technique is absolutely meticulous and beautiful to watch. If you are really looking for some head turning pieces this is the place you want to check out. And I’m not saying this because I got to wear them but in all real sense the designs are the perfecta amalgamation of modern and traditional.

Also I will take a minute to thank  Sanky for being super fast that day and absolutely loving my waves! It was such a beautiful day I wore the saree entire day, drenched in rain by the evening.

Special Thanks To the Queen Pooja Dhingra who was gracious enough to allow us to shoot there. I feasted there for 4 days straight and I have had almost anything on their menu literally from the sandwiches to teas to macaroons. You guys must know  Le 15 patisserie!

Plaid Perfect

So Ladies this is going to be a QUICKIE. I would also take this opportunity announce That I’m doing a little edition of Sale for these pieces that I’m currently making ,priced under 3k. Many a times have I come across women loving the stuff I make but back down due to the price.I just wanted to establish here,That I try and make only 10 % of profit over the making-I print my own designs and not source,I get them stitched  piece by piece hence they take a little more time but each garment would be to your specification.I can customise all the garments for you from the sleeves, the neckline the hemline and do forth.
This collection would be available by 22nd August and I make sizes XL and above.
Coming back to our post ,
For many people tartan brings to mind ancient Scottish clans, for whom particular colors and the widths of the horizontal and vertical stripes signified which clan the wearer belonged to. Others might think of the Kenyan Maasai tribe’s bright red tartan clothing, or recall wearing a tartan school uniform. Tartan also has associations with the ceremonial dress of the British royals – but the fabric also bears subversive undertones. The anarchic youth of the 70s gave tartan a punk twist, and in the 90s the grunge era appropriated tartan shirts for themselves.
It's the classic print hailing from the Highlands with which fashion has an enduring love affair - and this season Tartan is very much back on the style agenda. So, if you're struggling to style out the trend, Embrace one of the most popularly tipped patterns for fall and be inspired by some tartan street style looks. Tartan is going to be a popular trend for fall, so make sure you add this classic pattern to your wardrobe. The key to wearing the tartan trend this season is to give the heritage pattern a more contemporary spin.
Tartan street style looks might have a bit of a school girl vibe about them, but there are ways to make them much more grown up.
I made this tartan bodice with a hi-low hem skater dress that accentuates the curves and is perfect for our body types alike.

Paring it with my suede pumps from Tresmode and a polka –dotted headband ,my hair was styled by Sanky in the amazing front pouf and really a faux longer and sleeker bob.I would like to thank Copa Cafe for having me and my mates over!
